Susan Martin's Departure and the Search for Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

Susan Martin has informed me that she will be stepping down from her position as Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs at the end of this academic year. After many years in academic administration, Susan wishes to return to the Classics Department. She will be sorely missed in the Provost's Office, not least by the Provost himself, who counted on her familiarity with the campus, her knowledge of university policy, and her sensitivity to campus practices.

We will begin a search for a replacement immediately. I have appointed a search committee consisting of Joy De Sensi, Department Head of Exercise, Sport, and Leisure Studies; Carolyn Hodges, Dean of the Graduate School; Linda Silvers, who currently serves under Senior Provost Martin in the Provost's Office; and Mike Wirth, Dean of the College of Communication and Information. The search committee will be chaired by Todd Diacon, Vice Provost for Academic Operations.

I would like to invite nominations, including self-nominations, from the faculty. The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs plays a key role in faculty recruitment and advancement. It is a challenging position, but it is highly rewarding.
