Director of the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center

Dear Colleagues:

I write to announce that Dr. David Schumann has agreed to serve as the inaugural Director of the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center. We are excited about the benefits the TN TLC will bring to classroom teaching at Tennessee, and are convinced that Dr. Schumann will create quickly a functional center to aid both newly hired and veteran professors in their quest to become the best classroom teachers possible.

Currently Dr. Schumann is William J. Taylor Professor of Business in the Department of Marketing and Logistics, and co-director of the College of Business Administration’s undergraduate Global Leadership Scholars Program. Interdisciplinary by training and practice, David earned his undergraduate degree in education, his MS in counseling education/psychology, and his Ph.D. in social psychology. In the College of Business Administration David created the mandatory, two-credit Ph.D. teaching preparation seminar, and a week-long institute for executives who wish to make the transition to academia and college teaching. For both programs Dr. Schumann researched a number of university teaching and learning centers and explored the research literature on student learning. He looks forward to applying these experiences and knowledge to the TN TLC position.

Please help me welcome Dr. David Schumann as the Director of the Tennessee Teaching and Learning Center. I know that he wishes to begin by visiting with many of you to enlist your support for the Center, and to learn about the teaching and learning needs of our faculty. I am confident he will excel in this position and will elevate teaching excellence to the position it merits on our campus.
