Position Announcement | Vice Provost for Academic Affairs

The Vice Provost for Academic Affairs (VPAA) will provide campus leadership in promoting and developing the excellence of academic programs and ensuring a successful undergraduate experience for the increasingly high-achieving student body at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The University is seeking candidates who have the ability to contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University. The VPAA will have specific responsibility for undergraduate programs and curriculum, including General Education, Service Learning, Freshman Seminars, Learning Communities, and Distance Education. Also, the VPAA will oversee Academic Program Review and will coordinate academic programs such as Summer School, Life of the Mind, and Undergraduate Research. The VPAA will support student development and learning through collaboration with Student Affairs and pursue other activities supporting Academic Affairs as assigned by the Provost. The VPAA is a 12 month appointment reporting to the Provost and will be responsible for managing budgets in excess of $5 million dollars.

Required qualifications

Tenured faculty member at the rank of full professor; experience with and knowledge of UTK policies and procedures governing the curricular process, undergraduate education, and general education; ability to analyze data relating to the management of undergraduate academic programs; ability to work with faculty on processes of academic program evaluation; ability to work with academic leadership in setting strategic directions for academic affairs; and knowledge of budget management.

Preferred qualifications

Experience in academic administration including budget management.
