New Online Academic Catalogs

To: UT Knoxville Faculty and Staff
From: Susan Martin, Interim Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Subject: New Online Academic Catalogs

Beginning with the 2009-2010 undergraduate and graduate catalogs, UT Knoxville will have online catalogs that are easy to use, database driven, attractive and searchable. We have contracted with Digital Architecture to use their acalog ACMS(tm) academic catalog content management system.

Since we will no longer be publishing printed catalogs, the acalog
ACMS(tm) will enable students, faculty and staff to print only the sections and pages relevant to them or the entire catalog if desired.
The online catalogs will allow users to search by keywords to locate information. As students browse through the catalogs, they will be able to save information in the "My Portfolio" component which will contain all the requirements they need to plan their academic programs as they progress toward graduation (course descriptions, program requirements, general education requirements, academic policies, etc.).

Each year, after the new catalogs are online, past catalogs maintained in the acalog ACMS(tm) will be archived and easily accessible by a pull-down menu. The Web-based administrative component will provide powerful ways to manage and make annual curricular and policy updates.

More information will be forthcoming prior to the 2009-2010 catalogs going "live" this spring.
