Priorities Spring 2019


Our 2018 assessment of our Vol Vision 2020 strategic plan metrics indicates overall progress toward our goals.


At a series of student success summits led by Vice Provost R. J. Hinde, academic affairs and student life experts joined forces to develop new initiatives to help students stay in school and graduate on a timely basis.


About 23 percent of our students are first generation. We celebrate these students as trailblazers, and we’ve launched an initiative to support their academic success.


We are part of the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities’ Powered by Publics initiative, which has 130 institutions working collaboratively to improve all aspects of higher education.


Our new general education curriculum—now known as Volunteer Core—will take effect in the 2021–22 academic year.


We are moving forward on our first three cluster hire projects: Data Sciences, Quantum Materials for Future Technologies, and Center of Food and Activity for Healthy Communities.


Our new Asian platform will forge more collaboration in academics, research, and outreach and broaden our reach through all of Asia.
