Expansion of the Office of Online Learning and Academic Programs

As we work to expand UT’s presence and capabilities in online education, a course production team has been relocated from the Office of Information Technology (OIT) to the Office of Online Learning and Academic Programs (OLAP).

This team includes instructional designers, videographers, and graphic designers, all supporting instructors in the design and delivery of online courses.

The change brings all aspects of online program and course development together in a single office and will support the goal in the university’s new strategic vision to provide “high-quality educational opportunities for people at every stage of life, whenever and wherever they seek to learn.” The Office of the Provost greatly appreciates the partnership with the Office of Information Technology that allowed the creation of a “one-stop” team to support academic units in their online endeavors.

I encourage you to visit the Online Learning and Academic Programs website, onlinelearning.utk.edu, to learn more about the comprehensive suite of resources and services that OLAP provides for instructors. This includes “Jumpstart,” a signature semester-long cohort-based faculty development program that supports instructors who want to create a brand-new fully-online course.

The Office of Information Technology will continue to provide technical assistance, training, and support for Canvas, the current course delivery platform.

Thank you,

Robert Hinde
Vice Provost for Academic Affairs
