Faculty information related to Thursday, September 1 football game

Tennessee’s 2022 football season-opener against Ball State will kick off at 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 1.

Because the game will be held on a weeknight, it will impact academic operations.

The information below will be updated as decisions are made to keep faculty informed of changes that will impact them.

Class schedule for Thursday, September 1

The day will be a half day of in-person instruction with in-person classes ending with third period at 12:35 p.m.

Instruction for the rest of the class periods (beginning with fourth period at 12:55 p.m.) on Thursday, September 1 will be remote.

Parking

Parking lots will close at 1 p.m. Employees must move their vehicles from their normal assigned lots no later than 1 p.m. Faculty who need to remain on campus for their job responsibilities can park in the SC40 area (lot in front of the Kingston Pike Building) and take a shuttle to campus. Shuttles will run every 20 minutes. Please note that intervals will be longer at times due to gameday activities such as the Vol Walk and as gameday traffic increases. Shuttles will be available after the game back to the Kingston Pike Building until it is clear the service is no longer needed.

Building Access

Because all in-person classes that begin at or after 12:55 p.m. will be taught online, building access will be limited the afternoon and evening of Sept. 1.

  • Manual and electronic locking of buildings will start at 2 p.m., beginning with those buildings immediately adjacent to the stadium (South and East Stadium Halls, Alumni Memorial Building, Silverstein Luper Building, and Zeanah Engineering Complex).
  • All buildings are expected to be locked by 3 p.m. Card entry will be allowed for those with 24/7 access.
  • Buildings will be unlocked Friday morning.

Staffing

Remote work options for staff in academic units will be determined by deans. Vice chancellors will determine remote work options for administrative areas.
