The minimum graduate student stipends for Fiscal Year 2025 have been updated, following the plan established in August 2023:
- $21,522 is the FY25 minimum stipend for all nine-month, 50 percent graduate assistants, graduate teaching assistants, graduate teaching associates, graduate research assistants, and graduate research associates.
- $28,696 is the FY25 minimum stipend for all 12-month, 50 percent graduate assistants, graduate teaching assistants, graduate teaching associates, graduate research assistants, and graduate research associates.
Minimum stipends are prorated for positions that are less than 50 percent time.
As academic leaders look ahead to fiscal year 2026, they will continue the practice of regular review of minimum stipends and their alignment with the living expenses in UT’s estimated graduate student budget. Future increases will be coordinated with the campus budget process to ensure units can plan for increases during their regular budget planning cycles.
With the increase last fall, the increase this fall, and then planning for additional increases in the next budget, the hope is that by the 2025-2026 academic year, minimum stipends will be as close as possible to the living expenses in UT’s estimated graduate student budget. The practice of regular review of minimum stipends, as part of the budget process, will hopefully enable minimum stipends to stay in alignment with those living expenses moving forward.
