Faculty Women of Color in the Academy Conference Scholarships

The Faculty Women of Color in the Academy (FWCA) conference is a unique educational and professional opportunity for indigenous and women of color in higher education to network, engage, and learn with colleagues from around the country.

FWCA 2022 will feature sessions that explore the topics of leadership, career advancement, personal well-being and scholar activism. This year’s conference will take place on the campus of Virginia Tech on April 1-3, 2022.

UTK is a proud sponsor of this conference and is pleased to offer support to ten members of the UTK community to attend this event.  The scholarship includes conference registration and $400 in travel support. We encourage home units of selected applicants to also provide $400 in travel support.


Members of the UTK community who are interested in receiving a scholarship can apply here. Your application must be endorsed by your director supervisor.

Applications and endorsements are due by December 13th, 2021 at 5 p.m. Eastern. Those selected to receive support are expected to attend the entirety of the conference.

Selection of Scholarship Recipients

The Office of the Provost will charge a committee with reviewing applications and selecting recipients for the scholarships.

Due Dates

  • December 13th, 2021 at 5 p.m. Eastern: Applications and endorsements are due.
  • December 17th, 2021: Notifications on whether an applicant has been accepted will be sent.
  • December 31st, 2021: Accepted applicants are expected to register for the conference by to receive early-bird registration.
  • April 1-3, 2022:  Dates of FWCA Conference
