Josh Steele Joins UTK as Assistant Vice Provost for Online Learning and Academic Programs


On March 29, 2021, Josh Steele will join the Volunteer community as UTK’s first Assistant Vice Provost for Online Learning and Academic Programs. In this capacity, Josh will provide leadership and oversight to Online Learning and Academic Programs, which supports the university’s efforts in developing online and distance education. This includes fully online programs and online courses intended for both distance learning and residential students.

Josh has over 12 years of higher education experience, specifically in supporting and growing online programs and curriculum. Prior to accepting the AVP role at UTK, Josh served as the associate director of academic strategies for the University of Florida Online. In this role, he led all initiatives associated with success and experience of fully-online undergraduate students at the University of Florida, including academic advising and extra/co-curricular engagement opportunities. As a senior leader of the UF Online team, Josh partnered with team members in Finance, Marketing and Data Analytics to drive recruitment strategies for the university.

Josh is completing his doctorate in Geography at the University of Arizona, and has a masters of art in history from the University of Arizona and a masters of art in education (adult learning and training) from the University of Phoenix. He serves regularly as a panelist and presenter at conferences organized by UPCEA and the Online Learning Consortium.
