PEN America Virtual Workshops

PEN America is offering virtual workshops in April on academic freedom and free speech, and you are invited to participate.

Please register at least two days in advance of the workshop you plan to attend. After you register, you will receive instructions to access the Zoom meeting.

Virtual Workshop Schedule

All sessions will be held from noon-2 p.m. Eastern on Zoom.

  • Monday, April 11: “Understanding and preserving faculty academic freedom in a polarized environment,” presented by Jon Friedman, director of free expression and education at PEN America.
  • Wednesday, April 13: “Managing tense moments and their aftermath,” presented by Neijma Celestine-Donnor, assistant dean for diversity, equity, and inclusion at the School of Social Work, University of Maryland-Baltimore.
  • Thursday, April 21: “Overcoming barriers to robust conversation in polarized times,” presented by Lara Schwartz, professional lecturer in the Department of Government and director of the Project on Civil Discourse at American University.
  • Friday. April 22: “Creating and maintaining a respectful learning environment,” presented by Neijma Celestine-Donnor.
